I wrote something once about you don't know people till you meet them. I had been to Terlingua many times but had not met John Wells , Benita,  or Chicken George.
Lots have been written by them and about them , videos, and people have said some things but it wasnt until I finally met John Wells and Had some correspondence with Chicken George that I figured out that they are what makes Terlingua and the Big Bend area an attraction and interesting place to live. Ok so John has a pet long horn, its a little eccentric but we all are a little eccentric in our own way. I see cows as food, he sees them as a dear friend. I think the world can get along without eating Benita and its a free country so what the heck. Chicken George Zupp is one of those people that do their thing regardless of what anyone else says or does and eventually people start to realize and appreciate his genius. Very few artists were appreciated in their own time. I like the inventive and odd original thought processes of CG. Now Benita on the other hand has not spoken to me or agreed to visit me yet, but I think its because of the gift I dropped off for her. CG wont drink another Beer 30 , and Benita wouldnt even try it. It might take awhile before she forgets what time it is.

Ok my new favorite place, is West Coast Marine. Mark Roundy has given me some gret deals on used Batteries before but now is the time to buy. I got these two AGM  valve regulated 8d 12volt 255 amphrs a piece deep cycle batts for $55 a piece. He puts a battery meter on every batt he has sold me and shows what kind of condition its in. These happen to be in great shape.  he has lots of batteries he gets out of telephone and marine locations that are in perfect shape and he gets some which need a little work to them.   Currently he has lots of trojans  some large trojans which are 6 volt 365 amphrs that just need a little TLC. If you want to call him to see what he has on hand and are interested in purchasing them for the Terlingua area , call him and let me know ASAP because I should be driving through that way again in a few weeks.

when I was 17 , I took a trip across the USA and it included venice beach. Harry Perry could be seen then and now, he has been included in movies where the beach is shown and so I thought it would be cool to have a post card of the Field Lab on him while he did his thing.

I went to my favorite fish n chips place near Venice Beach and I got this Idea to help John Well spread the message about Benita and the Field Lab.


I have one of Johns Tshirts which he gave me on my last visit and I am looking for one of the regulars you see on roller skates playin guitar in all the movies which show Venice Beach. Cross yer fingers

This guy pushes that cart all over venice area with that suitcase in it. I'm working on getting him to slab city. I have so many more ideas on where to put some of these cards John gave me.

I haven't been posting cause I was a little busy, but today I went to the legion (gathering place). I had the best grilled cheese sandwich today at the legion or anywhere in the last 5 years, and it was only $3.25.  But I'm getting a head of my self.


Got into town the 3rd at about 11pm it was raining and was real dark, so we stayed at Chisos Mining hotel next to kathys kosmic kafe. Woke up the next day and got coffee, talked to the doctor ( drdoug) and went on to the dungeon. 


Its been raining for a while and the roads are not what most people are called passable. Fortunately my place down the ranch rd is on a good road and we went to go check it out. Very Pleased!!!.  Great Views and location for the home place. 


Yesturday went to the ranch lodge saw a mojave snake in the road.  The lodge was in good shape and noticed there will be some potlucks coming up out there.
We tried to make it to abbys land but one road we took had some big ruts and we didnt want to get stuck. looks like there might be another way out there, but we had to get back.


Today we got up early and went to Alpine, TFFGUY,Dave,and I needed to take care of some business there so we carpooled. The courthouse experience was a great one for all persons considered. Fast, friendly, easy, and it didnt feel like it took verylong to get there and back. We had a good breakfast and guess who we ran into?  Donna LU   who had just been to the FIELD LAB the day before, she had a FL shirt on.  When we got back to the dungeon Guess WHO was there waiting for us? John Wells, he dropped by to let me know about the new folks who bought everything around my 5 acres that is close to his house. It turns out that if I had seen JOHN WELLS 2 weeks earlier then those folks would have been buying that piece from him. John Did the real neighborly thing and told me where to find them and said he would be fine if I sold it to them since they bought all the other land around there. Looks like he might have another good neighbor some day. I showed up about 2 hrs before the MC Kennas were fixin to leave and they followed me to the bank and we did the land deal quick and easy. These folks are real nice people and it turns out that they have some younger kids who just bought some land around the corner from my land on the ranch rd.


Long story short is , we have had a great time so far and met some more great neighbors and ate some good food. 


Food:  starlight-salad/salmon  , Tacos/veggie burger , suzies snack shack-coffee/cake American legion-tosted cheese sandwich,  and the feature: Steak at THE DUNGEON.   next planning on The grub shack , and chili pepper.


Im using the american legion internet and gonna get back to watching tv and chatting. 

UPDATE 7-7-10


Yesturday, met John Wells and got the tour, he is alot taller in person.
he has a real nice place and I like his set up , hes got some real great ideas and I hope to be able to use some of them later. Cant wait to see his veggies start to grow, and maybe if Im good get to taste some too. I waved at people on the camera if you were watching but me being camera shy I didnt post or take any pics at his place. He is a real nice guy and has made me rethink my policy towards yankees.


Today

The dungeon is comfy 

It rained most the night and was overcast in the morning, so I thought it would be a good time to go check out the land and road to it. After raining mostly the week before and might I add some real drenchers, I was very please to see that the land and road were in great shape and I should have no problem year round getting in and out. I could even do it with a car if I wanted to Id bet, yet it is still very secluded and have yet to see any car driving around since the past 5 days of being out there. Great Views and peace and quiet / with some pretty good sized mesquite trees, makes me very thankful. Went to the grub shack after looking at the land and going into town for a few things.Had the burrito with rules and Moriah had the home made ice cream. BOTH WERE AMAZING! I tasted her ice cream too bad I tasted it after the burrito as I was too full to have my own. Met the proprietors of the Grub Shack and a few others. EVERYONE so far has been great. 


I really need to start writing a list of things to pick up since going to Terlingua is about a $15 dollar trip. I was happy to experience a few days ago, going to Alpine didnt really seem that far to me and there are a few people who ride share. 


Someone came up to me and wanted me to look at his roof and drywall damage inside his place and hired me to fix it. I found a local guy who can do it and between the both of us it'll get done right and I should be able to cover expenses and the other guy should be able to make a little money. 


If you have been wondering were I am posting from, You guessed it we are at the legion having toasted cheese sandwich YUM.

Don't know when I'll have internet  as I'm on a road trip.  Have a good 4th of July! Rest Relax Visit with your family. I'll be seeing some of you sooner than ya think.
